The STCW Basic Safety Course is the legal mandatory training required for anyone looking to work on board commercial vessels over 24 meters in length, including Cruise Ships and Yachts.

This course is made up of 5 different modules and takes one week to complete.

 

What you will learn

Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting

Demonstrates the different types of fire that can occur on board vessels and how to prevent them from starting.  The practical training includes use of fire fighting equipment and breathing apparatus to extinguish various types and sizes of fires including in smoke filled enclosed spaces.

 

Personal Survival Techniques 

Essential life saving training to deal with an abandon ship scenario. The sea survival training candidates will receive will equip them to adequately handle various emergency situations. Training includes how to use the latest safety equipment, donning of a life jacket, launching a life raft, search and rescue of potential casualties and correct procedures to follow when in an emergency situation.

 

Personal Safety & Social Responsibility

Candidates will learn about Maritime Legislation and safety procedures on board a vessel. This includes safe working practices, workers rights, employment laws and conditions, pollution prevention, human relationships and effective communication on board vessels.

 

Elementary First Aid 

Candidates will gain the knowledge and understanding on how to act when faced with an accident or medical emergency on board a vessel. Through a combination of theory and practical exercises you will learn how to effectively apply methods of First Aid such as CPR, bandaging, handling different types of injuries and dealing with casualties.

 

Proficiency in Security Awareness 

This course helps candidates understand the importance of security on board a vessel. The knowledge gained helps provide candidates with a heightened sense of security whilst on board and also understand the vessel’s security procedures.

 

Our STCW Basic Training course is run in accordance with Regulation V1/1, paragraph 1 Section A-VI/1, paragraph 2.1 of the STCW Convention and Code as 1978 amended.

Prerequisites

Candidates must be aged 16-years or over to attend the course
