About the course

Seafarers serving onboard ships that require STCW Basic Training certification must be able to provide documentary evidence of having completed or updated their training within the last 5 years.  This is mandatory in order to comply with the requirements introduced by the 2010 Manila Amendments to the STCW code.  Failure to to do so could result in failure of the vessel to pass inspection when controlled by Port State authorities.

Port State Control is the international body responsible for ensuring compliance with international conventions such as STCW and MLC.  Their inspections involve checking that the vessel is manned and operated in compliance with applicable international law, and verifying the competency of the ship’s master and officers, and the ship’s condition and equipment.

You are required to hold both your original STCW training certificates along with your refresher certification onboard.
